Salt and Camphor — Clearing the Energy of Your Home

Salt and Camphor — Clearing the Energy of Your Home

(Indian Kitchen White Witchcraft)

The elders always kept a small bowl of salt in the corner of the main room.

They burned camphor every evening, walking it through every room while chanting.

They placed lemon and chillies at the entrance — not as decoration, but as energetic protection.

Were these things merely ritual? Or was there something the elders knew that we have forgotten?

Here is what I observe in my own experience and in the experience of many I have worked with: spaces hold energy. The energy of arguments, of illness, of prolonged stress — it accumulates. Not in a dramatic haunted-house way. Subtly. The air feels heavier. People feel slightly more irritable. Sleep is less restful.

And certain substances and practices clear this energy.

Salt is a classical purifier in virtually every spiritual tradition. Its crystalline structure and ionic charge have a neutralizing effect that both science and tradition agree on. Himalayan rock salt or sea salt placed in small bowls in the corners of a room, replaced weekly — this is a simple and effective practice.

Camphor, when burned, releases a compound that clears the air in a literal, measurable sense. But the act of walking the camphor flame through the house while chanting — this also clears your own mental state. You become the instrument of purification.

Clapping in the corners of rooms, burning sambrani (benzoin resin), mopping floors with a few drops of cow urine or tulsi water mixed in — these are common South Indian and Gujarati home practices that have been maintained for centuries.

You don’t have to believe in their power for them to begin working. Just practice consistently for one month and observe what changes — in the house, in the sleep quality, in the mood of the people living there.

The elders were not primitive. They were sophisticated. We lost their science when we decided their tools looked simple.
